A branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) is an amino acid having aliphatic side-chains with a branch (a carbonatom bound to more than two other carbon atoms). Among the proteinogenic amino acids, there are three BCAAs:leucine, isoleucine and valine. Non-proteinogenic BCAAs include norvaline and 2-aminoisobutyric acid.

Dietary BCAA supplementation has been used clinically to aid in therecovery of burn victims. A 2006 paper suggests that the concept of nutrition supplemented with all BCAAs for

burns, trauma, and sepsis should be abandoned for a more promising leucine-only-supplemented nutrition that requires furtherevaluation.

The three proteinogenic BCAAs are among the nine essential amino acids for humans, accounting for 35% of the essential amino acids in muscle proteins and 40% of the preformed amino acids required by mammals.

Dietary BCAs have been used in an attempt to treat some cases of hepatic encephalopathy, but BCCA provides no benefit for this condition.

Cota et al.demonstrated in 2006 that BCAAs, particularly leucine, also affect themTOR pathway in rats, signaling two regions of their brains.

1. Instant BCAA (branched chain amino acids) - L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine - are the single most important group of amino acids for humans.

2. All three are used by the body to heal injured tissues, speed up recovery, and protect against muscle tissue breakdown (catabolism) during exercise.

3. Instant BCAA Branched-chain amino acids are considered essential amino acids because human beings cannot survive unless these amino acids are present in the diet.

4. Since one third of all muscle protein is comprised of BCAA's, they are extremely important for developing and building muscles.

5. Broadly, leucine heals and protects muscles and bones.

6. Valine promotes nitrogen balance which is essential for muscular growth. L-Isoleucine helps provide the necessary energy and is essential for forming hemoglobin.

BCAA's are branched chain amino acids - a group of three amino acids that are essential for growth and recovery: Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, which make up approximately one third of skeletal muscle in the human body.

When you work out, there is a massive increase in BCAA oxidation, which gives you energy. If you don't have enough BCAA's within your body, it will start to break down muscle tissue.

That's just one of the reasons why it's vital for all bodybuilders and athletes to supplement with BCAA's.
